Because we want our camp adventure to continue for one more night, we decide to camp at “The Hollies”, a beautiful and wild park in the middle of Leeds. After dinner we see a security vehicle pull up and are approached by a man who mistakes us for little girls abandoned in a van. A little confused, he allows us to stay the night even though he locks the gates. In the shadow of a psychiatric ward, a big stone building next to the carpark, we are alone in the park… and have a wonderful evening, eating mango, playing scrabble and listening to the rain.
After breakfast we go for a long walk through The Hollies, admiring the lush and rugged beauty of this place. The Hollies were once a private garden, belonging and being created by a rich family. Now the garden is open to the public and everybody can enjoy the maze of paths, takes you past streams, hundred year old trees, an array of exotic flowers coming into fruition and different landscapes.
to be continued…
